actually there is no better way to look for business ideas than to observe, look around and ask questions.

business ideas can't be born by just sitting in front of a computer or surfing the internet.

what's currently happening why most new business don't succeed is because they put up a business that attracts them, and not what the people/market really needs.

It's not only observing and being inquisitive, but by having a plan, a business plan to be exact. Analysing risk and tweaking that risk to have it in your favor (it's all about RISK). "Imagine" it while it's still on paper (plan), ask those who can give the right insight on issues (mentor) that will affect your plan.
If you are confident that you've got all the necessary preparation, follow through and give it all what you got....never give up at the slightest obstacle that you may face.
It's not only luck, but persistence and commitment in making it work.

Thanks for your suggestions and ideas. But what about if I focus instead in logistics (subcon), when the prices of oil is projected to hit USD200 per barrel, double digit inflation rate and supply of rice would take time to stabilize (a global problem).

I think there would be a decrease in the use of private vehicles to transport goods and services particularly for small enterprises. And not only small enterprises but government and private companies as well would try to minimize their non-essential trips to save on cost.

Would there be a future in sub-con hauling, under the scenario of a high cost of fuel, high inflation rate and high cost of maintenance?

Would, resorting to hire, eliminate the cost of the gasoline/diesel? I think not. Whether you hire or not; you will pay the cost.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Fixed cost would definitely not be eliminated if one owns a delivery truck for his business i.e. depreciation, maintenance and license. But variables like fuel, salaries for truck driver and helpers would be eliminated if one is to hire (assuming part time staff).

If the cost of hiring and using own truck for transporting products are the same, hiring would eliminate the unseen cost of worrying and stress.

Please correct me if I am wrong, I need opinions because I can't decide yet if I am to pursue this opportunity.
